Thursday, February 16, 2023 –The Political Parties Tribunal PPT has reversed decision by the Registrar of Political Parties which had ratified replacement of the Jubilee Party officials.
The tribunal on Wednesday February 15 regarded the move to restructure Jubilee’s top leadership as inappropriate since this ought to wait until a case before it is completed.
“Pending inter partes hearing and determination of the application, interim conservatory orders are hereby issued staying the Respondent’s decision communicated vide the letter dated February 13, 2023, to the effect that the meeting was properly convened per the party constitution and further staying any consequential action by the Respondent towards effecting, adopting or ratifying the resolutions of the subject meeting,” the tribunal orders read partly.
Former Ndaragwa Member of Parliament Jeremiah Kioni who had been reportedly replaced by MP Kanini Kega has said the move to suspend the registrar’s decision was welcomed and used the opportunity to condemn any attempt to carry out ‘leadership coupe’ within the party before consulting with party leader.
“We want to thank those within the judiciary who still believe that there is a country and institutions must be seen to be free and fair,” Kioni noted.
The ruling came a day after the Registrar of Political Parties, Anne Nderitu, ruled that the Nakuru meeting where members resolved to topple Kioni and his colleagues was legal.
And when embattled Kioni had attempted to seek for justice, to make the matters worse, Ms Nderitu quickly threw out the petition saying it held no water.
