Friday, May 26, 2023 –Police in Kakamega have launched hot pursuit on two robbery with violence suspects who escaped police cell at Kakamega Police Station.
Identified as DI, 26, and AK, 29, they are reported to have escaped from the cells on Thursday morning, May 25 with now police who were on duty put under grilling.
“Meanwhile, two police officers who were on duty when the duo escaped have since been placed in custody to assist with investigations,” the DCI made this update.
In a report from the detectives, the duo who have been terrorising residents in both Vihiga and Uasin Gishu counties went missing from custody, mysteriously.
“DI, had been arrested 3 days ago by sleuths from the elite Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau, after being on the run for weeks,” stated the DCI.
Though the officer on duty attempted to raise an alarm after they had escaped, the police who tried to follow the leads could not locate them.
“Police are looking for two robbery-with-violence suspects who escaped from lawful custody at Kakamega police station. DI, 26, and AK, 29, escaped from the station’s cells under unclear circumstances yesterday morning, as reported by the duty officer,” police statement added.
It is confirmed that DI was arrested on Wednesday, May 24, by sleuths from the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau ECRIB.
“He was apprehended after being on the run for weeks and is wanted for numerous armed robberies in Western Kenya, including the attack on a senior DCI officer based in Kakamega, who escaped death with life-threatening injuries,” DCI divulged.
Police are now urging members of the public to also help locate the criminals even as police in Kakamega intensify their search.
