Saturday, April 23, 2022 –United Democratic Alliance UDA Party has nullified Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter’s nomination certificate which had given him a node for a third re-election.

The nullification which was carried out on Friday April 22 was triggered by the complain lodged by his close competitor, Bernard Kitur, who rushed to the UDA’s Electoral and Nominations Dispute Resolution Committee with claims that MP Keter only won through ballot stuffing.

The incumbent had garnered a whopping 10,363 votes against Bernard’s 7,468 votes with the third contestant Robert Chepkwony managing 2,539 votes only.

Kitur, the complainant, told the committee that the irregularities which he openly witnessed cannot allow anyone to carry the day unless re-evaluation is properly done to ascertain accuracy. The argument was, therefore, admitted by the committee which said the issues raised were weighty and will have to be considered.

“We are satisfied that the allegations of ballot stuffing and delays in transmission have been proven.

“The same violates Articles 10,15(5), (6) of the Rules, Articles 29 and 30 of the Constitution; Rules 5,9,19,20 and other provisions of the party code of conduct, and contravenes sections 3, 10, 11 and 20 of the Election Offences Act”  the committee stated.

Further, Keter’s woes piled up even more after the resolution committee heard that he signed his certificate at Kapsabet instead of doing this at the Samoei High School which was the tallying center as it is required by the party’s laws.

Now as things stand, it is not clear if the affected person will be appealing the decision or will run independently in the August 9 elections.

Keter has constantly been at loggerheads with Deputy President William Ruto whom he has severally accused of failing the people of Rift Valley.
