Wednesday, July 3, 2024 –Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has owned up the allegations that he had acquired a brand-new multimillion helicopter.

Barasa admitted purchasing the chopper after Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale had told the Senate that there is one UDA Party MP who had, recently, acquired a complete chopper at the time the country was struggling with taxes, debt and poor economy.

Mr. Khalwale was taking on the floor of the House on Wednesday when he shared unknown details about a section of UDA MPs who have acquired instant wealth a few years after taking office.

In the plenary sitting at the Senate, the Kakamega senator expressed his dissatisfaction with the MPs who have been displaying opulence across the country.

“Hon. Didmus Barsa, take it easy, helicopters won’t change your life,” Khalwale said following reports that Barasa had acquired the multimillion chopper which he has been using to move around public functions.

But in a sharp rejoinder the same day Wednesday July 7, Barasa though admitted buying the chopper, equally reminded the senator about how he(Khalwale) has been spending his salary and allowances.

He listed a number of items the senator has been spending on his money which he compared with acquiring a chopper and said he(Barasa) was better by buying himself a choper.

“I have heard you mention me in the Senate proceedings regarding my purchase of a helicopter. Indeed, this is true. I made a choice between having one wife, a helicopter and trusting in God. In contrast, you chose a Nissan Patrol, ten wives, over twenty-five concubines, fathered forty-six known children, and maintaining 35 houses for hood rats across the Country. Maintaining such a large family and numerous homes is exponentially more expensive than having one wife, one helicopter, and three children. You just an old superficial and misleading fela,” Barasa noted.

The two were exchanging at the day Salaries and Remuneration Commission SRC has announced another increment of legislators’ monthly pay.

However, President William Ruto, hours later, directed the commission to cancel the increment, this being part of the austerity measures after his Finance Bill 2024 was rejected through protests by young Kenyans who have been having, atleast, two protests every week – Tuesday and Thursday.
