Sunday, May 28, 2023 –A section of the ruling United Democratic Alliance UDA Party politicians faced a rough encounter in Kakamega yesterday Saturday May 27.
This was witnessed in a local burial of Mandeleo Democratic Party DAP leader Joseph Amisi Omuganda who died in a ghastly road accident last week.
The UDA brigade led by area Senator Boni Khalwale had a difficult time addressing mourners on the controversial tax proposal from this regime.
Khalwale, UDA Party Secretary General Cleophas Malala and newly appointed Water Towers Board Chairman Rashid Echesa were among government proponents who had to struggle addressing the audience.
For instance, Senator Khalwale was reportedly heckled in his perceived stronghold of Navakholo Constituency where he usually gets many votes any electioneering period.
The outspoken Senator was embarrassed while he was trying to deconstruct the opposition team led by former Kakamega County governor Wycliffe Oparanya and his successor Fernandes Barasa.
“We have to move carefully. In Kakamega, people pay taxes. Its called taxation. About taxes, you must know that those telling you that tax had been increased are liars and this is their own imagination because budget is yet to be read.
“Number two, listen well… No Music. ….No Music… No Music. I am the senior most leader in Kakamega who must tell people the truth. I agree the cost of living is high but taxes will make us better,” he said as locals shouted him down.
Same fate faced UDA Party Secretary General Cleophas Malala who attempted to claim that some top leaders from Kakamega County have been meeting the president at night for assistance.
To defend his remarks, Malala shared a social media clip from the function in which he is exposing politicians -Deputy Governor Ayub Savula and Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe as part of leaders who were already jostling for accommodation in the new government.
“You Wangwe, you have been meeting President Ruto in my presence. I am shocked when you are with him, you do not talk about taxes. And Savula, refute that you did not call me the other day seeking appointment with President Ruto. You want to join Government ahead of 2027 election,” Malala made the wild claims.
The late Amisi Omuganda is brother to Education and Research Permanent Secretary PS Dr. Beatrice Inyangala who, in the last general election, was Malala’s running mate.
Omuganda’s burial service took place on Saturday May 27 at Eshikhoni, Shinoyi-Shikomari-Esumeyia Ward in Navakholo Constituency.
