Thursday, September 5, 2024 –Ugandan female athlete Rebecca Cheptegei has breathed her last while on treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Eldoret Town.
The late died on Thursday September August 4 at the referral facility where she had been rushed after sustaining high degree burns.
Cheptegei reportedly suffered 80 per cent burns on Sunday when her estranged boyfriend doused her with petrol in a scene that also affected the perpetrator with burns.
According to the Trans Nzoia Police Commander Jeremiah Ole Koisiom, the deceased’s boyfriend bought a jerrican of petrol which he came with to pour on the girlfriend before lighting the matchbox on her.
The area chief revealed how he heard the two fighting over the ownership of a piece of land where their house was built, a situation locals believed preceded the tragic incident.
