Monday, May 2, 2022 –Defence Cabinet Secretary, Eugene Wamalwa, was to replace Deputy President incase the latter resigned from office.
Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe has, for the first time, dropped the bombshell saying President Uhuru Kenyatta had already decided that Mr. Wamalwa would take over the deputy presidency following their (Ruto-Uhuru) war.
“Let me reveal this here. The president was hoping he could replace Ruto with Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, but the deputy president did not resign as we’d expected,” he revealed.
But the defiant DP who got wind on this, remained adamant that he won’t resign unless Uhuru follows the due process as stipulated in the Constitution.
“I am not an appointed State officer. I was elected together with Uhuru; so how then can I be asked by anyone to resign. I will only resign if those who gave me the job asks me to do so,” Ruto responded during one of his past interviews.
However, Murathe has reminded the nation that the Uhuru-Wamalwa relationship started way back in 2013 when Wamalwa was to be Uhuru’s running mate only for William Ruto to come from the blues and the rest is now history.
“In efforts to heal the 2007/2008 post-election wounds, TNA resolved that the deputy president slot should go to a member of the Rift Valley community, now that Uhuru Kenyatta had secured the president’s slot,” Murathe explained.
Mr. Murathe was speaking this in a church service held in Bungoma on Sunday May 1 where they had pitched camp with leaders affiliated to their Jubilee Party.
And sharing the same statement, the soft spoken Wamalwa added that, all along, Ruto has been a thorn in the flesh of leadership of this nation since the days he was part of the famous 2007 Pentagon.
“We know he was one of the hard-liners who were opposed to that handshake when he was with Raila. 10 years later, when the handshake brought back peace and economic stability, he belittles the handshake before his boss and Kibaki,” he narrated.
Miles away in Nairobi during the Labour Day celebrations, Uhuru also took issue with his deputy whom he accused of abandoning him at the time of need.
Ruto would, nonetheless, quickly respond through his social media platforms accusing Uhuru of having invited outsiders into the government what then messed up everything including the Big 4 agenda.
