Tuesday, May 9, 2023 –Jubilee Party splinter group has sued former President Uhuru Kenyatta for meddling in former ruling party’s affairs.

Homenews.co.ke has learnt that ex-Member of Parliament, Hassan Osman, on Monday, May 8, sued former President Uhuru Kenyatta arguing that the National Delegates Conference NDC slated for May 22 was illegal and cannot be presided over by Mr. Kenyatta who has since retired.

He argues through the court papers that, Mr. Kenyatta went against the Constitution in convening party meeting.

Also, in the court papers already deposited with a Nairobi court, Uhuru Kenyatta is accused of presiding over an illegal Special Delegates Convention NDC.

“That this Honorable Tribunal do grant Temporary orders and/or restraining and conservatory orders restraining the Respondents either by themselves, their agents, servants, employees or any other person or any member of Jubilee Party from convening any meeting of the Special Delegates Convention or any other day and/or dealing, acting or undertaking in any way whatsoever and or discussing and/or effecting any changes in the National Executive Committee,” read the document in part.

Others who have been sued alongside Mr. Kenyatta include  secretary general Jeremiah Kioni, and the party’s treasurer, Kagwe Gichohi.

The four issues the plaintiff wants addressed by the court are: Uhuru’s failure to adhere to the provisions of the Constitution of Kenya, failing to adhere to the laid down provisions of the party’s constitution, failing to adhere to the provisions of the Political Party’s Act No. 11 of 2011, and lastly failing to act with justice and equity in the circumstances.

On April 30, the former head of State issued a 21-day notice to Jubilee Party NDC to formulate new policies, receive a status report from the National Executive Committee NEC and consider and approve any other arising matters.

Kenyatta’s faction led by Jeremiah Kioni and William Ruto’s wing led by Kanini Kega and Sabina Chege are embroiled in bitter rivalry over ownership of the party.

Recently, EALA MP Kanini Kega – acting in his capacity as the party’s secretary general – installed Miss Sabina Chege as their new secretary general a move that has since escalated their fallout with Kenyatta’s side.
