Monday, June 10, 2024 –Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has come out to complain on frustrations from the current government.
In a media statement read by former Statehouse Spokeslady Kanze Dena, Uhuru has taken a swipe at the Kenya Kwanza administration saying, though, he was allocated vehicles for his personal use, the cars are yet to be replaced as stipulated in the Retired Presidents Act.
In the statement read by Kanze today Monday, Uhuru says the cars he is currently using were part of his motorcade when President Ruto was at Kasarani for the inauguration ceremony.
The cars allocated were not new and which he is still using; among them being two Land Cruisers, one Mercedes Benz and Range Rover which the former First Lady is currently using to move around.
“What the government spokesman did not clarify is the fact that these cars are not new as required but they were, in fact, part of the Uhuru’s motorcade when he left Kasarani after inauguration ceremony,” Kanze Dena disclosed today.
Dena revealed that the current regime agreed that Uhuru uses the cars for transitional period as they prepare to procure new ones for him; what has not been effected todate.
“It was agreed by the current Statehouse that Uhuru uses the old cars on transitional basis before he is offered what the law says. That is, as they begin the process of procuring new vehicles which are replaceable every three years,” the statement by Dena read.
Uhuru, in the claims made today Monday June 10, argued that the law allows him to demand two new four-wheel vehicles of his choice replaceable every three years. These cars must be within the engine capacity of 3000 – 4000 CC.
The former commander-in-chief lamented further that his predecessors were treated better with double the number of cars he has today.
He also revealed to the public that fueling of his cars stopped exactly in March 2023 todate. That the fuel cards were blocked by the Statehouse immediately he left office.
The current William Ruto’s administration, however, has been categorical on austerity measures, wastage in government offices by cutting down on unnecessary expenditures.
It is therefore not clear whether this move was meant to affect his former boss, Uhuru Kenyatta.
