Monday, December 21, 2020 -President Uhuru Kenyatta and Hon. Raila Odinga will reportedly be fielding a single candidate in the forthcoming Nairobi County gubernatorial race.

The 2021 race which will seemingly be another titanic battle between DP William Ruto’s wing and their boss Uhuru Kenyatta will definitely leave an indelible mark in the Kenyan politics. This is according to political analysts.

On Monday December 21, reports emerged that both Orange Democratic Movement ODM and Jubilee Party wing of President Uhuru Kenyatta are locally planning to field a common candidate who will then face off with others.

Peter Kenneth with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Nairobi having been an ODM affair for long, it will be interesting to see Mr. Odinga pass the mantle to Jubilee in line with their March Handshake agreement which seems to be informing every step right now in the country.

According to the Star, ODM will be producing a Deputy Governor while Jubilee Party will be left to propose the Governor following the recent impeachment of Mr. Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

The publication further disclosed that Uhuru and Odinga had decided to pick on the former Gatanga Constituency legislator Peter Kenneth to be the next governor of Nairobi.

Weighing on the Kenneth’s candidature, city Lawyer Dunston Omari noted that this was part of the high voltage succession politics of 2022.

“Mr. Peter unsuccessfully ran for the seat. His coming back cannot be termed as a surprise and remember also that the Mt. Kenya 2022 succession politics are in all these mathematics,” Omar said adding:

“Uhuru Kenyatta’s project was totally destroyed by Sonko in 2017 because he wanted Nairobi to be under someone who would be part of his succession come 2022”.

It should not be forgotten that Kenneth ran in the last 2017 gubernatorial race for Nairobi that eventually saw Ex-governor Mike Sonko win with a landslide.
