Sunday, May 16, 2021 -Government has put together a battery of top notch lawyers to save the collapsing Building Bridges Initiative BBI in the Appellate Court.
News reaching this desk indicate that proponents of the BBI have already constituted a team of city lawyers who have been tasked with overturning the Thursday May 13 High Court decision that annulled the whole Constitutional Amendment process.
This is coming just a day after Mr. Raila Odinga issued an official statement over the matter saying the judiciary will be respected but its decision must be challenged at a higher level.
The former Prime Minister asked supporters to remain calm and further restrained them from attacking that arm of government for undertaking their constitutional mandate.
“We will do so with sobriety and with respect for our judges and courts. Ultimately, our objective is to strengthen, not undermine, the judiciary,” promised Mr. Odinga.
Already, Attorney General Paul Kihara with his able team have filed a protest at eh Court of Appeal against the High Court’s ruling; in which they argued that the nullification was not convincing.
Raila Odinga’s side, according to media reports, is putting up its backup lawyers led by lawyers Raul Mwangi and Arnold Oginga.
Government and Raila therefore will be working closely together through their lawyers some who were opposed to the process so that they can successfully counter the recent High Court ruling.
Further media reports have claimed that Senior Counsel Paul Muite, Solicitor General Kennedy Ogeto, Lawyers Arnold Oginga, Paul Mwangi, James Orengo and former AG Githu Muigai will be facing off with those opposing the BBI Bill led by Lawyer Waikwa Wanyoike.
