Thursday, January 13, 2022 –President Uhuru Kenyatta has rejuvenated his friendship with Members of Parliament and Senators.
Treating them on a special luncheon held at Statehouse on Thursday January 13, President Kenyatta thanked the legislators who attended the meeting saying it was a great honour to have them as his guest this start of 2022.
Uhuru who hosted the leaders also asked them to continue supporting his agenda to leave the country at a safer place than he got it.
“Let me say how wonderful it is to be with you at the beginning of the year and to share a meal. Let me take this opportunity to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the commitment you’ve shown especially by those of you from the National Assembly during this holiday period.
Kenyatta singled out the passage of the Anti-Money laundering Bill which he argued will make sure the country’s economy is not interfered with.
“The passage of the Anti-Money Laundering Bill, for example, will ensure that we are able to continue being part of the international financial system, and to have a respected banking system that can only help improve and mature our economy,” he stated.
And speaking on the Political Parties Amendment Bill, Kenyatta said the important Bill, just like the BBI, was also being fought by his opponents but by good luck they were overwhelmed by those who want the country to move forward.
“And the political parties amendment that we are trying to push through – which some people have tried to demonize as they did with BBI. The Bill is giving us an opportunity to be able to formally work together across political parties in the interest of the nation,” the President explained.
Uhuru also spoke about the NHIF Bill which will make it affordable for very Kenyan to get necessary health care.
On his part, ODM Party boss Raila Amollo Odinga noted that the passage of the Political Parties Bill was a milestone for the country and asked Senators to emulate what MPs recently did so that the Bill can sail through as fast as possible.
