Wednesday, September 29, 2021 -Cabinet reshuffles carried out today by President Uhuru Kenyatta through Statehouse Spokesperson Kanze Dena have seen key cabinet members moved.
For instance, Monica Juma who has been heading the Ministry of Defense has been moved to Energy where she is expected to replace Charles Keter now in Devolution docket.
CS Eugene Wamalwa is now the new Defence Minister. He has been at the helm of Devolution for four years. Before then he was Agriculture CS in the first term of Jubilee government.
Further in the new changes, Ministry of Public Service and Gender headed by Margret Kobia has been renamed to Ministry of Public Service, Gender, Senior Citizens Affairs and Special programmes.
In the announcements also saw permanent secretaries reshuffled. Gordon Kihalangwa and Joseph Njoroge have been moved to State Department for Energy; from State Department for Public Works.
Nelson Marwa has moved to State Department for Public Works while Solomon Kitungu will now be in the State Department of Transport.
President Uhuru has also renamed Ministry of Labour and Social Protection to Ministry of Labour same to Ministry of Devolution and ASAL which is now called Ministry of Devolution.
This reorganization, according to President Kenyatta will help bolster efficiency, and will institutionalize implementation of the ongoing reforms alongside introducing functional changes in relevant dockets.
“IN exercise of the presidential prerogative vested in the Head of State and Government under Article 132 of the Constitution, as read together with Articles 152 and 155 of the Constitution, HIS EXCELLENCY THE PRESIDENT has instituted portfolio re-assignments in his Cabinet and in the ranks of Principal Secretaries,” said the Head of State.
In the changes, the Department of Special Programmes has been transferred to State Department for Social Protection, Pensions and Senior Citizens Affairs. It will led by CS Kobia.
President Uhuru Kenyatta indicated that the changes were necessary for effective service delivery across board.
