Saturday, July 29, 2023 –Former President Uhuru Kenyatta was not given a chance to address during their Friday July 28 memorial service held at the SKM Command Center in Nairobi.
Despite arriving in the function with Azimio supporters expecting to hear from him, Mr Kenyatta remained sited calm in his seat as he followed the proceedings that ended a few minutes past noon.
Embattled Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has told the media that they had come to an early agreement that Mr Kenyatta will not be addressing the audience that comprised supporters and victims of police brutality.
This, Kioni noted, was deliberate and strategic since Mr. Kalonzo Musyoka read the speech on behalf of the entire coalition. The speech, he revealed, had been prepared collectively.
“It was not a day for speeches but for being there for the family,” Mr. Kioni told a local digital channel.
Kioni also mentioned that the main agenda of the event was not political but to grief with the affected families.
“We were there to encourage and feel the family of those who passed on. We were also there to pray and wish a quick recovery to those injured,” he added.
Mr. Kenyatta made unexpected show up at the function where he was received by Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.
This made his maiden appearance with Azimio since kicking off their anti-State protests which he has been accused of being behind.
In many cases, Uhuru has been sending Kioni to read his speeches or present his donation as he kept the back seat.
And reacting to his presence in the Azimio event, most of President William Ruto’s allies claimed that he had finally come out of closet as the real Azimio financier.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, yesterday Friday July 28, took a swipe at the former head of State for destabilizing the nation instead of emulating his predecessor Mwai Kibaki who never came back to the public after ten years in power.
He then stated that Uhuru will not be entitled to any retirement package until when he will, officially, see the need to quit Azimio politics.
