Thursday, February 3, 2022 –Nairobi County Senator Johnson Sakaja was among key figures from TNA Party who proposed Deputy President William Ruto to be Uhuru Kenyatta’s running mate.
Latest statement from Central Organization of Trade Union COTU boss Francis Atwoli has shown that President Kenyatta will never forgive Sakaja for misleading him in 2013.
Speaking yesterday during a live interview, Mr. Atwoli blasted the Nairobi senator for recommending a ‘thief’ in the name of Ruto to be Uhuru’s running mate; what the president in now regretting of.
According to Atwoli, Uhuru is so pissed off with Mr. Sakaja who has repeated the same mistake by supporting the Ruto-Musalia alliance.
“Uhuru not only regrets his choice of a running mate each day but also curses the person who proposed Ruto to him as a deputy,” Atwoli stated.
Senator Sakaja has never made a secret of the fact that he was the brainchild behind the UhuRuto joint ticket of 2013, and has even openly said it in his past public speeches that if it were not for him, then UhuRuto merger would not have materialized.
Back in June 2021, while speaking during Churchill Show, the Nairobi senator noted that he literally crunched the numbers and advised President Kenyatta to select Ruto as his running-mate in 2013.
According to Sakaja, the move to approach Dr. Ruto for an alliance with the then newly launched The National Alliance (TNA) Party was informed by numerical data and strength.
As an Actuarial Scientist, Senator Sakaja claims to have analyzed DP Ruto’s clout and established that he would be the best pick if TNA was to win the 2013 presidency.
“We had to bring together TNA and URP… We wanted to win… All these MPs went to Naivasha and I – as always – was doing a presentation on numbers.
“So I told them, and I hate to be tribal but, according to the numbers, we needed at least 60% of the Rift Valley vote.
“They laughed. It was unthinkable to work with Ruto but we did it anyway!” recountede Sakaja.
Uhuru and Ruto would finally merge their parties – URP and TNA – what transformed into Jubilee Party that has been able to take power twice.
