The angry comrades barricaded Waiyaki Way and University Way with rocks and bonfires causing massive traffic snarl-up.

They were chanting ‘free Rocha’ slogans as some were spotted pelting stones at passers-by mostly motorists who use the road.

The demonstrations come a day after the university students led by the Nairobi Students Association (UNSA) announced plans to stage demos over new funding model.

According to UNSA, despite attempts to report the abduction matter to the Central Police Station, the police were yet to intervene hence the protests.

“We, therefore, call all the students of The University of Nairobi to assemble at Main Campus- UNSA Offices by 1.00 pm. We shall gather here, from where we shall pray and dispatch search parties to retrieve our President,” read part of the UNSA statement.

Other students across the country were called upon to support the move to pile more pressure on the State to free their leaders.

The sendoff between universities and government was triggered by the new model of funding which most students think is not favourable to them.
