Sunday, July 24, 2022 –Police have released the identity of the persons who were arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA, a few days ago.
The agency, in blow by blow account today Sunday 24 morning, detailed reasons that led to the arrest of the three Venezuelans at the Kenyan airport.
The DCI named Jose Gregorio Camargo Castellanos, Joel Gustavo Rodriguez Garcia and Salvador Javier Sosa Suarez as persons who had been allowed to smuggle fraudulent electoral materials into the country by the Wafula Chebukati-led IEBC.
This is after Chebukati had openly released a series of statements defending the three Venezuelans and calling out the State to release them immediately.
Carbago who was first to be arrested and detained at the airport upon touching down, had suspicious luggage and upon scrutiny, it was discovered that he was carrying the election materials destined for various stations.
According to the police report, his bag had 17 rolls of stickers which were meant to serve different designated polling stations estimated at 10,000 in number in 10 counties; mostly strongholds of UDA Party.
This regions are Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Meru, Machakos, Murang’a, Bomet, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, Nyandarua and Kericho.
Another bag which the same person was carrying had a personal laptop, a personal monitor, five flash discs, one mobile phone and assorted personal computer accessories.
“The officers having established that the rolls were allegedly the property of IEBC of the Republic of Kenya arrested the suspect and confiscated the stated rolls and went ahead to inquire from the suspect Jose Gregorio Camargo Castellanos how he came into possession of the same.
“The suspect confessed that he was given the materials from Panama by his company M/S Smartmatic International Holding B.V,” partly read the long statement explaining that the materials were destined for a private office in Nairobi.
This aroused more questions as to why the materials were not accompanied by any IEBC official as it is always done and required by law.
The DCI also took issue with Chebukati for misleading the nation that the foreigners were arrested by the Anti-Terror Police Unit, ATPU.
Kenya Kwanza camp has been on the forefront calling out the State for foiling the fraud which was meant to deny Mr. Odinga of Azimio any win in the August elections.
