Monday, September 27, 2021 -Footballer Victor Wanyama has decided to quit national football team Harambee Stars in a long post he made today.
Currently plying his trade in the Major League soccer in the United States of America – Montreal Impact – Wanyama today Monday September 27 said it is now his appropriate moment to pass the mantle to young and fresh blood after 14 years of dedicated service.
The defensive midfielder who has also played for top tier clubs Tettenham Hotspur and Southampton made his international debut for the Kenyan national team (Harambee Stars) in May 2007 in a friendly match against Nigeria. He went on to become the team’s captain since 2013 when Dennis Oliech was leaving.
The footballer made the retirement announcement through his Twitter handle thanking those who have been supportive to his football career all along.
“It has been my honor to represent my country, and I think it is time for me to pass the mantle to the young. I will always be a fan of the national team and their biggest supporter,” a line from his post read.
Wanyama is younger brother to Mc’Donald Mariga who has also resigned from football.
