Thursday, December 8, 2022 –Footballer Victor Wanyama or the ‘Big Vic’ is back in Harambee Stars after playing professional football abroad for many years.
Making this confirmation on Wednesday December 8 morning, new Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba said he was happy to receive back the player into the Kenyan National team, Harambee Stars.
CS Namwamba broke this news via his official Twitter account where he also promised to remain with current Captain, Michael Olunga, in the squad.
“Am delighted @VictorWanyama has agreed to return fully to Harambee Stars, rescinding his earlier decision to exit the team,” the Sports CS announced.
While in the national team Harambee Stars, Wanyama had 64 successful appearances, with 6 scores during his stint that ran from 2007 to 2020.
He is now on a fishing expedition after quitting CF Montreal which has just completed its MLS November Season.
The now-free-agent footballer is expected to help the new Sports CS to revamp the game which had started going to the dogs due to poor management.
“In our mission to rebuild our football and elevate our national teams, our elite players must be at the heart of this renaissance,” Namwamba updated.
Wanyama’s professional playing started at Beerschot AC, Celtic, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and CF Montréal where it has ended.
According to MLS official site, Wanyama earns 24 million a month, totaling to sh 290,280,000 annually. The player also pockets an annual guaranteed compensation rising to sh 373, 937,123.
