Tuesday, June 7, 2022 –It has emerged that Kenya Kwanza Alliance was first to promise that once elected into office they will quickly abolish Mitumba business in the country.
In an undated video clip in which Deputy President William Ruto is addressing mammoth crowd somewhere, he can be seen promising to turn the country local by abolishing second hand cloth business.
Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu took to her Twitter account on Tuesday to disclose how Ruto and his team are pretending to attack Odinga on the Mitumba remark when themselves promised to halt the trade without giving a proper roadmap if elected to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta.
“The Mitumba conversation, when @WilliamsRuto talked about it no one noticed, but when Baba @RailaOdinga talks about it the country shakes. Who has the country?” she wrote over the video she also uploaded.
In the short clip which Homenews.co.ke has received, Ruto argued that to reduce joblessness in the country, his administration will stop importing anything that can be produced locally.
“Ndio mambo ya manufacturing … nguo, vyatu tutasimamisha kuagiza. Vijana wa taifa letu la Kenya katika ile mpango wa kuzalisha mali tuweze kuondoa umaskini,” Ruto addressed.
The Mitumba debate has been the discussion now entering a second day after Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance leader Raila Odinga, yesterday Monday June 6, through his 10-point manifesto, promised to make sure local production is supported in the country by reducing imports.
This remark however, was blown out of proportion by his rivals who turned it to mean abolishing mitumba trade.
