Sunday, September 3, 2023 –President William Ruto was on Sunday spotted driving on the streets of Nairobi for a public function held at the Kenyatta International Convention Center KICC.
The Sunday September 3 gesture by the commander-in-chief saw a section of the nation issue varied concerns on the safety protocol of the head of State.
Some read politics in the colours of the car Ruto was driving; For instance, Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly MCA Robert Alai asked the President not to drive in UDA yellow colours since he is President of the whole country.
“You are the president of Kenya. Stop driving around in UDA colours,” Alai observed.
The live a minute plus video showed Ruto behind the wheels of steel of a two-seater MG Comet Electric car as outriders took sides on the road.
“A drive for the future: Low-emission, planet-friendly e-mobility is the long-term sustainable transportation solution for humanity,” Ruto captioned the scenes which he also shared with viewers
He was headed for a global preparatory meeting dubbed Africa Climate Summit at the KICC Nairobi.
Commenting on the same, Statehouse Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed clarified that President Ruto made the unpopular choice to show his commitment to adopting electric vehicles in the country.
“President Ruto leads by example, driving himself to KICC in an electric car and an all-electric motorcade to connect with Africa’s Youth on their climate declaration ahead of the Africa Climate Summit tomorrow,” stated Mr. Mohammed.
The three day Africa Climate Summit, scheduled from September 4 to September 6, 2023, is focused on addressing the global and African-specific impacts of climate change.
