Waiguru Beats Gachagua as Ruto’s Preferred Running Mate

Thursday, February 17, 2022 – Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru now stands at a better chance to be Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate.

Latest survey conducted by Tifa Research firm on Thursday February 17 showed that Waiguru’s star was on a steady rise around Mt Kenya Region. Mathira Constituency Lawmaker Rigathi Gachagua follows her by far.

Waiguru’s popularity in the vote rich Mt Kenya region stands at 31 per cent with Gachagua only garnering 14 per cent.

In third position is Kiharu Lawmaker Ndindi Nyoro whose popularity in Central Kenya stands at 11 percent while Narc-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua getting only 10 percent.

In the Azimio la Umoja camp, former Gatanga legislator Peter Kenneth emerged the best to be Raila’s deputy while Karua who is yet to declare her stand came second. Nakuru Governor Lee Kinaynjui took third position as his Laikipia counterpart emerged last, in that order.

On the national front, Amani National Congress ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi was the best pick for Ruto; followed by Ms Anne Waiguru and Gachagua in that order.

Nationally, Peter Kenneth still beats the rest as Odinga’s preferred running mate as Kalonzo emerged second with 18 percent.  Martha Karua and Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu also featured with each gaining 13 per cent and 5 per cent respectively.

On the other hand, Deputy President William Ruto still beats Raila Odinga as the most popular presidential candidate with 38 percent while Odinga got 27 percent.

“Odinga’s popularity has risen to 27%, the most recent increase being a reflection of the public launch of his candidacy on December 10, 2021,” Tifa stated in the research.

United Democratic Alliance UDA Party emerged the most popular political outfit countrywide. This is from the 9 sampled zones.

So far, the pollster also established that 20 percent of citizens are yet to decide on their political stand.
