Tuesday, October 5, 2021 -Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has hinted at running on an independent ticket in the next general polls.

Waiguru stated that there is no competent competitor so far in the Kirinyaga race and she is optimistic of retaining the seat in 2022.

“I have done much for the people of Kirinyaga, I am sure that if elections were held today and I stand as an independent candidate, I will be reelected,” said Waiguru.

Just a couple of days during her recent interviews, the Jubilee governor argued that it would be difficult to defend the seat under Jubilee Party, adding that the voters swing with the political wave and that moment had come.

The former Devolution Cabinet Secretary has also dismissed rumours that she is eyeing the deputy president post, and assured her competitors – Interior CS Karanja Kibicho, former Justice Minister Martha Karua and the county’s Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici that she is ready to face off with them in 2022 duel.

She took the opportunity to rubbish claims that she was gravitating towards DP William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance UDA Party.
