Thursday, October 26, 2023 United Democratic Alliance UDA Party governors have ganged up to defend embattled Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza.

Council of Governors Chairlady also Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has, in a statement issued on Wednesday October 25 evening, asked the ousted Kawira to trust in God despite the humiliation.

She described Mwangaza’s current situation as very saddening but hopeful that her bright day will be back soon.

“Asiye kuwa na wake ana Mungu… I stand with you my sister Gvn Kawira Mwangaza. It’s darkest before dawn. Look to the Hills from whence your help comes from. There is God in Heaven,” Waiguru stated.

Her counterpart, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, also joined the debate terming the impeachment move as quite unfortunate.

“My dear sister Governor Kawira keep your head up and know that you are not alone. I stand with you. I Pray that your day comes when you overcome all these trials and come out stronger and a winner.

“May the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; May the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. It shall be well my sister,” remarked Kihika.

Millicent Omanga, former Nairobi County Woman Representative candidate, noted that it was indeed a sad day for women in the country as men continue to target women in leadership positions.

“Governor Kawira’s impeachment is very unfortunate. This is a sad day for women in leadership seeing a woman governor being a constant target by people who don’t think she is qualified enough to lead the great county of Meru,” she stated in her statement of Wednesday October 25.

Earlier, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria had issued a similar statement saying he stands with the governor.

“I stand with Governo4 Kawira Mwangaza. This is an evil scheme by someone who thinks that the only way to be a Mt Kenya Kingpin is to bring down other leaders not to solve the problems of our people who are getting desperate by the day. History will vindicate me,” he stated.

Governor Mwangaza was, on Wednesday October 25, unanimously impeached by the Meru County Assembly MCAs following the tabling of a second motion for her removal from office. All 59 MCAs who were present in the House on the fateful evening voted in support of the motion for her ouster.

Her final fate now rests in the hands of the Senate.
