Tuesday, May 2, 2023 –Waihiga Mwaura has resigned from Citizen Tv for British Broadcasting Corporation BBC after his 14-year stint at the station.
The seasoned journalist has now joined the swelling list of media personalities quitting local media houses for various reasons.
Though, its not quite clear where he could be headed to, a reliable source told this writer that the News Night host has already secured a chance at the BBC.
His last day at the Royal Media Services RMS will be(today) on Tuesday May 2.
“After 14 amazing years at Royal Media Services (Citizen TV), my time here has ended. My next stop is BBC News (BBC Africa) specifically Focus on Africa.
“I’ll share more details soon, but in the meantime, see you on my last episode of #Newsnight at 9:00 pm on Citizen TV,” Mr. Waihiga stated.
In his gratitude message to the employer and colleagues, he said he was grateful for rising through the ranks and his experience to become one of the top news anchors so far in the country.
At the media station, he was also their features editor and special assignments editor, as well.
BBC’s Alice Muthengi made this confirmation that Mwaura will be their new presenter of Focus on Africa Tv.
“I am delighted to let you know that Waihiga Mwaura will be the new presenter of Focus on Africa TV. Waihiga is a respected, award-winning, and talented Kenyan journalist with engaging storytelling and presentation skills.
“Some of you may have encountered him in London before, as he was the 2018 winner of the BBC News Komla award. He joins the programme at a crucial juncture, as we seek to reach younger audiences and tell more original and impactful stories,” Ms Muthengi stated.
Following exit of Hussein Mohamed years back – now Statehouse spokesman – from Citizen screens, Mwaura filled that space so well continuing with News Night interviews every Tuesday.
He was seen interviewing persons like Cabinet Secretaries CS, Members of Parliament MPs, Presidential candidates and other notable public figures.
He joined RMS in 2009 as their sports anchor; a position he held for about seven years.
