Monday, August 30, 2021 -Businessman-cum-presidential hopeful Jimmy Wanjigi has busted Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee government for looting a whopping sh 275 billion through the Standard Gauge Railway SGR project.
Addressing his relationship with the political class, the business wheeler-dealer said he wanted to pump his own sh 55 billion into the project so that it can remain a privately managed business for efficiency, but DP William Ruto and his boss Uhuru Kenyatta stopped him. They ended up claiming to have used sh 330 taxpayers money into the project after borrowing loans from China.
The project was purely supposed to be completed and run privately with minimal supervision from the State but this failed due to political interference.
“SGR was a project birthed by me in 2008 alongside China Road and Bridge Corporation. The intention was that the rail was a private project, with nothing to do with the government. The government was only to provide the land. SGR was to cost Ksh55 billion from Mombasa to Malaba,” said Wanjigi.
Later, Wanjigi would learn that the Mombasa to Nairobi Railway costed taxpayers a whopping sh 330 billion; as the section from Nairobi City to Naivasha took another sh 185 billion.
Responding to a question from his host Linus Kakai about his relationship with politicians and governments, tycoon Wanjigi said he is a problem solver by virtue of him being an astute businessman.
“Businessmen find solutions to problems; I was invited during post-election violence to find a solution to the unification of two warring communities played at the time by ICC. I was solving problems, I helped unify two parties,” he added.
He however clarified that he has never directly done business with governments but always acts as an in-between agent who sources for the best prices on the market.
