Thursday, September 26, 2024 –Exercise to collect signatures meant to expedite the removal of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from office is ongoing and the motion could be tabled anytime.
A source privy to the development told NTV that, though, it is not clear who will be tabling the motion in the House, Gachagua’s fate now lies in the hands of the MPs from both political sides.
He will be confronted by among other charges, violation of the Constitution, gross misconduct, and abuse of office as the deputy president.
The MPs will also task him with an explanation as to why he had been preaching shareholding gospel at the expense of other regions which equally pay taxes.
Accusation by MPs
Rattled lawmakers accuse the second in command of attacking government security agencies among them the National Intelligence Service NIS. This he did when he openly directed his anger at NIS boss Noordin Haji during last Gen Zs protest.
President William Ruto allies now say, his actions contradicted the national interest hence compromising Kenya’s security.
Commenting on the matter, Deputy Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Owen Baya, has reported to the media that their case is water-tight and could leave the DP with zero breathing space.
Baya added that Gachagua will be facing a night of long knives since the charges are weighty and not easy to overturn before any judge.
“We have built a water-tight case which the judge may not be able to overturn. The DP may not even have a second chance. His activities over the weekend went overboard, He showed the president the middle finger,” stated Baya as quoted by the NTV.
Meeting to Plan
A meeting by president Ruto’s allies led by Senator Aaron Cheruiyot was this week held to deliberate on how to swiftly send Gachagua packing.
Equally, DP Gachagua also held his meeting with a handful of loyalist at his Karen residence where he also planned on how to counter the onslaught from his boss.
But addressing the same issue on TV’s live session, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah described the activities as diversionary tactics considering the timing.
He, therefore, advised those planning to impeach the DP to reconsider the plot, censure and call Gachagua to order so that allow the country to deal with real issues of Adani Group scandal and Social Health Insurance Fund SHF confusion.
