Tuesday, September 5, 2023 –Police in Uganda have warned the National Unity Platform NUP Party leader Robert Kyagulanyi against huge gatherings during his ongoing rallies.
In a fresh cautionary statement from the government security department, it is becoming increasingly difficult to assure Bobi Wine and his close supporters of their safety.
The police claim that there could be some individuals who might take advantage of the gathering and harm anybody.
“We cannot guarantee the safety of those who attend those events and tour rallies. Those crowds need to bother about their security. There’s likelihood of people interpreting our statements as politically- motivated but that won’t stop us from warning them about the danger of such crowds,” the statement from the Police Spokesman Felix Kulayigye read.
A section of Ugandans took to the comments section to laud the police for the warning saying Bobi Wine’s life could be in danger.
“Thank you, security, for this important warning. I think NUP supporters should take it seriously owing to the fact that their leader, Bobi Wine, has always been a strong supporter of the ADF, which is one of the most notorious terrorist groups threatening Uganda!” Jordan commented.
Days ago, the Ugandan opposition leader had to cancel their critical countrywide tour after security alarm was rung.
“This morning, we received reliable intelligence from some European Diplomatic Sources of a planned attempt on the life of President Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, and other NUP leaders at the planned NUP mobilisation events in Kabale District.
“This caused us to make strategic adjustments in our programs for the day, including concluding our events earlier than planned. We shall release a more detailed statement in due course. We remain very grateful for the massive and warm reception received from the people of Kigezi,” NUP remarked in their August 31 statement
Bobi Wine, however, stated that the march was still on starting with Mayuge on Wednesday and Thursday and that every district will have a day of meeting with him.
