Tuesday, November 15, 2022 –Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior has revealed his discussions with American tech mogul, Bill Gates, on Tuesday November 15.
Upon landing in the country on Tuesday morning, billionaire Gates jetted to Makueni County for a series of development meetings.
Key among the meetings held and hosted by Kilonzo is the Kathonzweri Dispensary closed-door meeting that was not attended by either the media or local security.
“We made a serious presentation on our healthcare workers and our budgets. He had a very keen interest in knowing how we cope with the problem of receiving only 50 percent of what we require from Kenya Medical Supplies Agency and how we plug in the gaps. He also wanted to understand the workings of community health volunteers,” Governor Kilonzo stated.
Governor Kilonzo added that the main aim of Gates coming to Makueni is to open taps of donations through their Melinda and Gates Foundation.
“This is just a learning experience so that they can ask the other counties what they are doing and whether we can have a one-size-fits all which they can fund because they fund big-time programmes,” Junior revealed.
On his part, Gates who appeared to have liked the whole concept, promised to reach out to other blue-chip US organizations for more support for the Kenya’s projects.
“At a later date I am going to have a discussion with Thinkwell and Agra, the partners Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation deals with to see whether we can tap into some of their resources and markets,” Gates added.
The US towering techie figure is also said to have been impressed by a local health volunteer Julius Sanya who is staying at the healthcare facility despite existing challenges.
