What Captain Olunga Said About Their Match with Egypt

Wednesday, March 23, 2021 -Haramebee Stars towering Michael Olunga is a happy man to lead Kenya’s Harambee Stars against the Pharaohs in their AFCON qualifiers to take place tomorrow at Kasarani Satudium, Nairobi.

Olunga who was officially handed the armband by Coach Jacob Ghost Mulee to lead the Kenyan side has termed this not only a respectful gesture but also an honour from fellow Kenyans.

“But I am honoured for the coach to select me to captain the team against Egypt, I feel humbled because there is something the coach has seen in me so of course being among the players with experience in the squad, we will strive to influence the young boys,” he stated.

The striker who currently plays for the Al Duhail SC replaced Victor Mugubi Wanyama and will also lead the Stars in their next away match with Togo.

Coach Mulee has upto now not explained why Wanyama was missing in the squad but word has it that he apparently didn’t see the need. Remember, Wanyama left his former team due to age factor and currently his form is also wanting.

The former Gor Mahia danger man Olunga, on Tuesday March 23, promised to deliver results for the home-side. He also indicated how this new responsibility will force him not to take chances.

“Of course it is a huge responsibility, in fact first to be called to the national team is a huge responsibility, you are carrying the whole country on your back, so first of all being called up to the national team is a huge responsibility,” Olunga told Goal.com.

He also took the opportunity to thank his Coach Ghost Mulee to select him as the leader of the team in the next two Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.

He described their match with the Pharaohs as an important one and which will need a lot of character from Stars’ boys.
