Tuesday, July 26, 2022 –Deputy President William Ruto has now blamed unknown cartels for stalling the Arror and Kimwarer dam projects in Elgeyo Marakwet.
Addressing during his weekend tour in the county, the DP promised locals that among his first priorities will be to complete the dams so that water supply could nolonger be a challenge in the drought-stricken area.
He seemed to be urging the voters to give him a chance so that he can complete anything he promised them when he took over office with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“We are indebted to you. Uhuru Kenyatta and I stood here and promised to construct the dams. Unfortunately, criminal elements and political cartels stalled the Kimwarer and Arror projects.
“This project would benefit the people of Baringo, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Turkana counties. We are going to construct the dams if elected into office,” remarked DP Ruto.
Kimwarer Dam project has been at the center of national politics in the country where a section have constantly blamed its failure on William Ruto who is on record claiming that the only cash which got lost and which he can explain how is ‘only sh 7 billion’.
This back and forth circus saw president Uhuru Kenyatta, in September 2019, order an immediate commencement of the re-implementation programme through a revised Bill of Quantities BQ.
Kimwarer was to initially cost the taxpayer a whopping sh 66 billion exaggerated quotation.
