Friday, July 15, 2022 – The World Health Health Organisation WHO has released a statement on the ongoing tussle surrounding Kenyatta University land.
Speaking on the matter, WHO has mentioned that it has nothing to do with the wrangles and that they had only reached an agreement with government of Kenya to set up a state-of-the-art emergency hub on the 200-acre land.
WHO Africa Director, Matshidiso Moeti, on Thursday July 14 clarified how they met with officials from both the Ministry of Heath and Foreign Affairs and agreed on the way forward and how the land will be utilised.
She said this was in tandem with the laws governing member countries of the world’s largest health orgainisation WHO.
“We are aware that the land is owned by the government and the people of Kenya and continues to be so. We engaged in discussion with the government to host some additional functions,” she stated.
She added that the hub to be set up will benefit everybody around the continent since this will be the official WHO regional offices with an emergency unit to store drugs.
“We must work together to stop Africa from becoming a hotspot for emerging infectious diseases by containing them before they cause widespread infections,” she also stated.
President UIhuru Kenyatta had to fire defiant KU Vice Chancellor Prof. Paul Wainaina who wanted to stop the project for unknown reasons.
