Why I Record Conversations and Release Them – Sonko

Wednesday, November 24, 2021 –Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has revealed why he likes recording conversations and then releasing them to the public.

Appearing on KTN News on Tuesday November 23, the sacked governor stated that his main aim was to unearth the dirty activities that happen in offices and with public officers at the expense of the suffering poor Kenyans.

He also pointed out that there are so many cartels and crooks in the ‘system’ and who could do anything including grabbing public property and nothing could happen to them because of their high connections with both the judiciary and those in power.

“I only record crooks and cartels. If you are my friend, you have nothing to be afraid of. But if you come to me with plans of stealing, I will expose you to everyone.

“I haven’t always been recording people. When I became governor, I inherited a city that was known for corruption and sleaze. I had people come into my office, calling me trying to broker deals that would steal from the city,” Sonko added.

Mr. Sonko revealed that when he started exposing people one after another, there was some fear in stealing public money within City hall.

He further defended that he has nothing to lose even if it meant not being elected again; that would not stop him from forcing justice to prevail upon poor and helpless citizens.

“I have nothing to lose anymore. Even if I never get back into elective politics again, I need to finish this war for the 40 million Kenyans who do not have a chance at justice. If someone like me, someone with means can be cheated out of justice, what chance do the poor Kenyans have?” Sonko charged.

Apart from recording President Uhuru Kenyatta sometimes back, Sonko last week released a series of video clips with an aim of exposing a number of judges who have been receiving huge kickbacks to bend judgements.
