Tuesday, March 19, 2024 –Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has shared with the public the reason he wants all bars opened at 5PM and closed by 11PM.

In his speech during the signing of the Affordable Housing Bill into law at the Statehouse Nairobi, the DP said youths being destroyed by drinking can only be utilised through the activities brought around by the construction of the houses which started countrywide.

He argued that all Kenyans will be afforded the opportunity to work in construction sites and abandon the drinking habit.

“You (President Ruto) have guided us that people should not drink during the day. Now we have an opportunity because there will be employment for people to go and work,” said Gachagua.

He seized the opportunity to thank his boss (the head of State) for initiating the Housing project that will see the poor also boast of owning a home of their own.

“For the avoidance of doubt, bars will open at 5PM and close at 11PM. The rest of the time let’s go and work, build houses and provide shelter for our Kenyan people.”

The operational guideline is stipulated in Section 34 of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act which dictates that bars should open at 5PM and close at 11PM during weekdays and operate from 2PM to 11PM on weekends.

It is now obvious that Kenyans will have to part with a 1.5 percent contribution every month for the housing project.

On his part, President William Ruto urged every employee to be generous with the little contribution so that to make the country habitable by everyone whether working or not.

“We will be answerable to God if we do not help those who are not enriched,” President William Ruto advised today.

And now with the Affordable Housing law in place, citizens will now contribute 1.5% of their monthly pay to the Housing Levy and a similar amount from their employers.
