Thursday, June 1, 2023 –President William Ruto mentioned Calvin Ochieng’ two times in his Madaraka Day speech at Moi Stadium in Embu with many Kenyans wondering why just Ochieng.

While explaining to the audience why small businesspersons will be empowered under his leadership, Dr. Ruto sampled one Calvin Ochieng who is a less known bodaboda rider operating from Kilimani Nairobi.

Speaking at the Stadium today Thursday June 1, the head of State noted that Ochieng(the rider) would enjoy proposed reforms in the boda boda sector and in the entire transport sector.

Through government’s plan to roll out electric vehicle public transport system, Ruto promised that Ochieng and fellow riders will have a direct benefit from the project.

“Our boda boda industry is about to experience inclusive transformation through the introduction of more efficient, affordable and clean vehicles. With this intervention, owning and operating a boda boda will become affordable, secure and profitable.

“I am eager that this information reaches the seconder of my presidential nomination, Calvin Ochieng, who operates in Kilimani so that he can escalate his hustle to the next level,” Ruto added.

Ruto-Ochieng friendship started when Ochieng seconded Ruto during the last year’s presentation bid exercise before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati who was clearing all presidential contenders.

This took place in June 2022 as Ruto was in the company of Ochieng and an elderly Mama Pauline Waithera, who runs a fruit grocery shop in Kiambu Town.

The two were photographed at Bomas of Kenya as Ruto was being taken through the clearance exercise for his 2022 General Election stab.

Dr. Ruto used the duo to also prove to his supporters that he was more into their plight than he was with the wealthy.
