Thursday, February 4, 2021 -There are some Kikuyus who have been voting Raila Odinga every elections though quiet few in number. He should however not give up.
Odinga is unpopular in Mt. Kenya Region and that is not in any doubt. His name is not so good on the ground because of misinformation peddled on him by his political enemies who fight day and night to disfigure is face. They have managed for a long time to rebrand him so that to look bad in the eyes of their ignorant locals.
Odinga, however, should not lose sight. He should this time around use the confusion created by Uhuru to fight hammer and tongs the age-old notion that claims he can’t get any substantive backing from that vote rich region.
This is the most opportune time he can capitalize on to access the region and sell himself against the rising popularity of DP William Ruto whose fortunes could dwindle very soon shall his boss Uhuru Kenyatta maintain firmness on the ground and spoil his(DPs) name. Kikuyus, from history, will take only three months to change their mind and that is why Ruto could soon be in for a rude shock. Simply put, they are unpredictable. “You can only rent a Kikuyu but you can’t buy him or her,” Governor Waiguru once said.
That said, it is important to be reminded that Deputy President William Ruto, is not a push over and this is obviously evident but what worries me and my like-minded Kenyans is the fact that someone somewhere could stop him through single shot. And this will be made possible by the same persons who have been fighting Odinga for decades. Just like they made Odinga look evil in the eyes of all Kikuyus, the same tactic will be applied secretly to seal the fate of Dr. William Ruto in the region.
For instance, ask any random Kikuyu native to explain why they think Raila Odinga is not a good man and they will fumble all day long. They cant be blamed because this is not their making but they were wrongly made to believe lies. Lies the world over sells like hot cake. Propaganda is so sweet in the ear of those without wisdom.
Realistically, to some extent the region now seems to be worshiping the DP but that cannot be a sufficient reason to stop Mr. Odinga from using his short term friendship with President Kenyatta to topple the notion.
Most important is to never give up even in the face of severe odds. Keep an eye on the ball even when attempts to score falter and misfire.
