Why we Cannot Impeach Both – Lawyer Otiende

Chrispen

Tuesday, October 8, 2024 –Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has elaborated on why a rallying call ‘kufa derive kufa makanga’ is ill-informed.

In his submission to the Parliament today Tuesday October 8, the MP explained that it is reckless to call for the Ruto-Gachagua impeachment because the country needs a leader to sign laws and to constitute some independent bodies like the Electoral body, IEBC.

He said, though, that both may have failed the country, there is need for one to remain behind as the country forms the new IEBC that can contact elections.

“Impeaching both is reckless because, as we stand today, we do not have IEBC that can contact elections tomorrow. We therefore have to save passengers in this bus and who are Kenyans by sparing the president for a while.

“Remember, if we send Ruto and leave Gachagua in office, Gachagua cannot appoint elections panel. But on the other hand, Ruto can reconstitute the IEBC which can carry an election in futire,” Otiende explained.

He further explained that the rallying call ‘kufa dereva kufa makanga’ cannot work because, if used carelessly, could leave the entire nation in a tight corner when Kenyans still require their safety.

“If we deal with Ruto and Gachagua at the same time, where will be their passengers? Will they be safe. This is  a delicate affair which ought to be dealt with very keenly,” he announced on the floor of the House.

Impeachment exercise of DP Gachagua is ongoing at the Parliament. It started at 9AM with the DP arriving to defend himself from eleven accusations.

On Monday night daring his press conference held at Karen home, the DP confirmed that he has no plans to resign from office.

“When I called this press conference, I heard some people speculate that I have plans to quit. How dare can you believe that I want to resign when i was elected by over 7 million Kenyans?” he posed

He added that he was elected by over 7 million voters who must be allowed to have a say in case he is to be send home.
