Saturday, August 27, 2022 –Vice Chairman Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC, Juliana Whonge Cherera, has expounded on the reason they could not take ownership of the Presidential results announced by Wafula Chebukati.
In her early morning affidavit deposited at the Supreme Court in response to Raila Odinga’s suit implicating the electoral body in massive voter fraud, Cherera said first, Wafula Chebukati was arrogant with figures that had not been consulted and harmonised.
She also claimed that Chebukati went on to summerise tabulation of the results into Form 34C before all the constituencies could be submitted to the national tallying center.
That 27 pending areas were to be received but their chairman, hurriedly, made his conclusion to benefit his political master.
These constituencies are Bomachoge, Borabu, Bura, Eldas, Fafi, Kacheliba, Kajiado East, Kandunyi, Kapenguria, Kilifi North, Kitutu Chache North, Kuria East, Mandera West, Matuga, Mbeere North, and Mvita.
Others are Narok North, Narok South, Narok West, Ndaragua, Ndhiwa, Nyakach, Rongwe, Suba North, Tigania East, Wajir North, and West Mugirango.
At this rate while running the show alone, the chairman switched off the display screen at the tallying center so that no one knows what was going on behind the scenes.
“On August 13, 2022, the display screens or results at the National Tallying Centre as they were being read out were paused and no longer showed the results garnered by the four Presidential candidates after the tallying of three million votes thereby denying the information to the Commissioners, observers, agents and the public.
“In the circumstances, the Commission could not take ownership of the result of the presidential election declared on August 15, 2022, by the chairperson,” Cherera pointed out.
This behavior forced them (the four commissioners) to distance themselves from any further activity at the Bomas of Kenya because whatever was being prepared was obviously going to be faked.
Mr. Chebukati would end up awarding Ruto with a victory certificate of the President-elect.
