Monday, October 24, 2022 –Wife to the slain Pakistani Journalist Ms Javeria Siddique has urged members of the public not to share out family photos and details, for security reasons.
Speaking on the death of her husband, Siddique, on Monday October 24 confirmed that Mr Arshad Sharif had been shot dead while on duty in Kenya.
“I lost my friend, husband and my favourite journalist Arshad Sharif today, as per police he was shot in Kenya. Respect our privacy and in the name of breaking please don’t share our family pics, personal details and his last pictures from the hospital. Remember us in your prayers, ” the wife mourned on social media.
Though there is yet to be enough details on this death, sources have linked this to a deliberate gun attack due to the sensitivity of the story he was following up.
The sources mentioned that the celebrated journalist was assassinated while working on an investigative piece with a Kenyan colleague who is also good at investigative stories. He would then be taken out with a single sniper shot.
“The story was about criminal investigations that touches the who and who in power,” a source claimed.
A background check on his past works indicates that the journalist was vocally opposed to the political developments in his own country.
He specialized in investigative journalism and covered many political events in his country for national and international news organizations.
By the time of going to the press, the High Commission for Pakistan in Nairobi was yet to make an official communication.
