Wednesday, May 31, 2023 – Ms Winnie Odinga has reacted to Calvin Okoth Otieno aka Gaucho’s outburst on failures in Azimio leadership.

On Tuesday May 30, the Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party supporter known by the name Gaucho accused part of Azimio la Umoja leaders of blocking him to meet former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He also took issue with the manner in which they respond to his arrests saying Azimio leaders have been discriminating on youth.

In the viral video, he starts by pointing out how he is forced to remain in police custody for days just because Azimio cannot immediately send lawyers to secure his freedom.

In his own account, only Embakasi East Member of Parliament MP Paul Ongili aka Babu Owino has been helping.

“When Maina Njenga was recently arrested, we saw all Azimio leaders run there. Njenga has not been with us, he just came the other day and he is already receiving all the attention from Azimio leaders and lawyers,” he rants in the clip.

But speaking hours later on Wednesday May 31 after Gaucho’s clip went viral, Raila Odinga’s younger daughter, Winnie Odinga, noted that police had started taking advantage of Azimio by arresting Gaucho for bribes, every week.

“Gaucho is arrested every week that I now have a ‘Free Gaucho Fund’ on my phone. The police arrest him every week because they know money is going to be send for him to be freed.

“Therefore, we are trying to find a permanent solution to his harassment by the police,” Winnie stated.

The clip which has attracted a lot of attention around the country shows Gaucho also complaining that some key individuals in Azimio don’t want to take him to former head of State Uhuru Kenyatta who recently pledged to buy him ‘lunch’.

“You know recently Mr. Kenyatta said something on me. I am supposed to be taken there because I can’t just walk there alone. No one wants to hear that,” Gaucho claimed.

The youth leader has, therefore, given Azimio leadership an ultimatum failure to he could stop joining them in their future political activities including public demonstrations.
