Friday, August 12, 2022 –Incumbent Woman Representative for Meru, Kawira Mwangaza, has taken over as the next Governor of the County after trouncing the incumbent, Kiraitu Murungi, in the August 9 polls.

Murungi lost to Kawira who garnered a whopping 209,158 votes as the second person Mithika Linturi got 183,859 votes while Kiraitu came a distant third with 110,850 votes.

Mr. Murungi, a lawyer by profession, who has been flip-flopping from Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition to Kenya Kwanza alliance finally got a dose of his own choice when her woman representative managed to finally flaw him.

Deputy President William Ruto, through Mithika Linturi, maintained their campaigns in the area with the hope of taking over the covetous seat, but pundits now claim the many court-related scandals surrounding Linturi could not allow UDA Party to win tat position.

This alone meant that voters in that area should now choose a neutral person and who was the incumbent women representative running on an independent ticket.

During the campaign period, the two -Linturi and Kawira – had started accusing Murungi of nepotism in employment structure within the county.

During her acceptance speech, Ms Kawira who is now the governor-elect attributed her victory to both God and voters.

“It is day of wonders and I thank my deputy governor-elect, Isaac Mutuma, who has made this journey come true and not to forget my husband Baicu Murega

“I want to promise you that Meru will be the best county. I also promise you sustainable development because we shall deliver.

“I welcome all elected leaders to work together with us because our unity will mean great strength and development for Meru County,” Kawira stated.
