World Court Rules in Favour of Somalia Over Kenya-Somalia Border

Monday, October 12, 2021 -A World Court on Tuesday ruled in favour of Somalia over the Kenya-Somali border feud that has been there for over five years.

This has left Kenya with huge loses after the ruling that will force Kenyan government to cede part of the oil-rich Indian Ocean section.

The revised maritime border along the exclusive economic zones for the continental shelves of Somalia and Kenya “achieves an equitable solution,” Judge Joan Donoghue said.

It was found out that Kenya failed to prove beyond reasonable doubts that there was an established sea boundary between the two nations. This failure therefore left the country much exposed.

However, it has also emerged that Kenya’s government did not send anyone to represent it in court by arguing that it had revoked any recognition of the said court’s jurisdiction.

Somalia went to the United Nations UN highest Court for Territorial Disputes in 2014 when it had learnt that Kenya was serious in protecting their soil at the height of Alshabaab attacks in the country.

Kenyan government as well as Somalia both claim the over 100,000 Sq km nearly 40,000 sq miles of seafloor.

President Uhuru Kenyatta when tasked to speak about the matter after the ruling just promised to issue a comprehensive statement.
