Interestingly, Yakub who has taken over the city accused Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko for assaulting him during his (Sonko’s) arrest in Voi last year in December. Sonko was facing graft charges of sh 357 million.

The move to make changes in Nairobi were informed by the current chaos at the County Assembly which Speaker Beatrice Elachi linked to Mr. Mike Sonko accusing him of fueling unnecessary assembly wrangles.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i in his Thursday hard reaction over the chaos, termed County Assembly of Nairobi a ‘war zone’ filled with guns and which required a new police post so as to restore back law and order.

Matiang’i and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai visited the scene two days after ugly fights had ensued with MCAS pushing Speaker Elachi out of office for the second time.

“We will have a police post which will be run by officers here. This will ensure that the county assembly is safe from people threatening security,” Matiang’i said.

They(MCAs) were said to have been serving Elachi with an impeachment motion against the court orders she had secured for her stay at the assembly.

Elachi has had a prolonged fight with her county assembly MCAs which has seen her in and out of office not once.
