Another top Tanzanian opposition figure flees the country

Just a day after top Tanzanian opposition politician Godbless Lema fled his country to Kenya before he was arrested by Kenya’s authorities, another top figure has also left.

Citizen Tv on Tuesday November 10 reported how opposition candidate Tundu Lissu had also fled way to Belgium for asylum.

“He (Tundu Lissu) has left the country today afternoon to Belgium for treatment and for opening a new (political) battle throughout the period he is expected to be there,” Tumaini Makene, opposition party CHADEMA spokesman, divulged to the Reuters.

Homenews.co.ke has also seen a video posted on Lissu’s Twitter account showing the leader leaving the German Embassy in Tanzania where he has been for the last 3 days.

And with Lissu’s move to come to Kenya, this now brings to two the number of top politicians from Tanzania who have sought refuge in foreign countries fearing for their lives.

While speaking after his dramatic arrest, Lema pointed out that many of his friends had been murdered when they tried to ignore signs of attacks and that he would not want to also suffer the same fate. He made it clear that he was satisfied to arrive in Kenya not because he had committed any crime back home but because he believed in the laws of the land.

Lema, wife Neema Godbless and their three children were nabbed at Kajiado last Sunday while entering Kenya without documents.

His lawyer George Luchiri Wajackoyah had to immediately swing into action to save the family from prosecution. He later managed to free them.

Amnesty International Kenya AIK was part of the Human Rights organizations which piled pressure on the government to not only free but also to protect the victims.

Lema and his family will therefore remain in the country until such time when they will feel it is safe to go back home.

The two have been on the forefront castigating President John Pombe Magufulki for bungling elections in compete day broadlight.
