Former Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has wished opposition leader Raila Odinga all the best in the February AUC elections.

In a statement he shared on both X and Facebook during the Friday Dec 13 live broadcast debate, Mr. Balala said, he is not afraid to support one of their own.

“As a proud Kenyan, I believe it’s our duty to support one of our own, His Excellency Raila Odinga, in his bid for the African Union Chairperson. You deserve it, Best of luck,” he stated.

Prof Makau Mutua also weighed in on the debate saying, only Mr. Odinga gave a compelling reason to be voted as the next head of African Union Commission.

“Baba Raila Odinga gives a succinct, compelling, and blockbuster opening statement of his vision for Africa in the race for Chairperson of the AUC,” Makau stated.

Odinga’s allyy Alinur Mohamed on X too quipped that the organisers of the debate and the elections agency at the AUC should stop wasting time with the debate and continue to declare Raila Odinga as the new African Union Commission chairperson.

Mr. Odinga was facing off with Djibouti candidate Mahmoud Ali Youssouf and Richard Jandriamandrato from Madagascar.
