Friday, January 22, 2021 -President Uhuru Kenyatta is reportedly worried about a resurrection of any full blown Raila-Ruto political war this early.
Michael Ndonye, a seasoned political commentator and economist, has weighed into the recent speech by President Uhuru Kenyatta on several Kikuyu radio stations which he thinks was only aimed at assuring Mr.Odinga that the State House was still fully behind the Building Bridges Initiative BBI.
The commentator said Uhuru’s long rant on the four vernacular radio stations was mainly aimed at telling the ODM boss that he(Uhuru) was still fully committed to the Handshake Agreement terms and condition as well as the BBI.
This according to Mr. Ndonye who is also a member of the Embu Professional Association EPA, was purely a deliberate counterattack to the recent Senator Irungu Kang’ata’s controversial letter that triggered adrenalines and shockwaves across all political divide and which seemed to have raised temperatures higher in the Orange House.
Raila must have become suspicious when Kang’ata who is also an appointee of Uhuru at the Senate warned that the BBI risked being rejected in totality especially in Mt. Kenya part of the country. And because Uhuru still needs Mr. Odinga, he had to walk into the village radio stations to speak his native Kikuyu language to the locals.
“The letter exposed an underbelly in central Kenya, exposed Uhuru Kenyatta’s foothold in his backyard and destabilised Raila and ODM. That is why Raila started insisting that striking doctors should be paid,”Ndonye explained in an article with The Standard newspaper issue of Friday, January 22.
Listening to the Uhuru’s interview on radio, Mr. Ndonye further noted that what the President wanted was to let Odinga and his team know that he(Uhuru) was fully in-charge of the Jubilee vessel and that there was no need to worry about DP Ruto’s purported influence in Mt. Kenya.
“However, Uhuru has realised that if he waits for political stability without his intervention, he would be waiting for Godot,” he added.
Ndonye concluded his article by arguing that because Mr. Kenyatta never mentioned Ruto by name in the entire vernacular interview, this could still mean he values the DP and could get him back anytime in future if need be. That is politics since who ever knew Mr. Odinga and Uhuru will see eye to eye after all the ugly shit they spit against each other in the last two volatile campaigns that saw Odinga’s Bullet proof car shuttered its windscreen by an intentional bullet? No burning of bridges in politics!
