Sunday, February 14, 2021 – Deputy President William Ruto got a demotion without a sack. He still enjoys the heavy perks and all the Stately treatments required for any one serving in that capacity. Simply put, the government is making losses on Ruto as he makes profits.
Ruto is still the bonafide Deputy President with or without an official role assigned who executes whatever he is assigned, few and far between as they may be. It doesn’t therefore bother him because he has managed to spin around Mr. Kenyatta to appoint he looks displaced and completely headless.
Yes, Interior Ministry took over most development projects which Ruto used to ride on to traverse the country. Ruto on the other hand, quickly devised another way of doing things; going in churches around the country and this he does using State resources, security and infrastructure. Always taking every situation and converting it into an opportunity just like the wise saying that goes, ‘In every problem lies a solution’.
Ruto, in other words, is happy to let the situation be as it may since this always allows him to continue enjoying all his privileges while at the same time campaigning for his 2022 presidential stab. Either way you would look at it, Uhuru left Ruto to win this game all through. Look, how would you pay someone to do absolutely nothing? Who, in this case, looks stupid?
Everybody is asking why the two cannot therefore separate now that thing seems not working. The answer is – the two are intertwined together like Siemens twine. They are constitutionally joined together at the hip and this makes Ruto laugh all the time when he hears some busy bodies threaten to impeach him because you try to impeach him, he comes back next morning using the Law. It is that hard.
