Top Lawyer reveals how Uhuru, Raila have many options apart from Referendum

Sunday, February 7, 2021 – Lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo, husband to Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, has disclosed that BBI will easily sail through all Houses.

He said whether Deputy President William Ruto likes it or not, there was no way the project could fail at House level saying government will deploy all machinery to frustrate him on this one.

Through an opinion article in one of the Dailies on Saturday, Mr. Kamotho who is touted as one of the brilliant legal brains from Mt. Kenya, said both Odinga and Uhuru will frustrate the DP at every level until what they want is fully achieved.

Though he was clear that Ruto was a threat on the ground, he mentioned that the Handshake duo deploy every method possible to carry the day.

He predicted that the Bill will hit the required 24 county threshold in a few weeks starting with Siaya County which has already passed it.

“Baba’s County did him proud by being the first assembly to say yes. I would be surprised if the Bill does not get approval by the requisite 24 counties in the next few weeks,” Kamotho opined.

He therefore added that when the 24 County Assemblies pass this, both National and Senate Houses will also do the same which will allow the president and Mr. Odinga to use unauthodox means to tactically avoid going the Referendum way. This he said is lawful and the country could still amend the laws without having to be subjected to a vigorous Referendum.

“Knowing of these political headwinds, why would BBI’s promoters run the risk of a contested referendum in which they may lose or win but leave grievously wounded?” Kamotho added.

Kamotho’s sentiments were shared by many other top lawyers across the country who argued that there are still many options open for the duo.
