Thursday, February 11, 2021 – David Maraga’s position is up for grabs and it has emerged that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s inner circle is busy pushing for Lawyer Fred Ngatia to take over the job.
The position fell vacant following the retirement of former CJ David Kenani Maraga who left office a few weeks ago.
Maraga and Uhuru never had chemistry and the two would, in many instances, lash at each other until the day Mr. Maraga left office.
In the shortlisted 13 candidates, there is Judge William Ouko, Martha Koome, Said Chitembwe, Mathew Nderi, Daniel Marete, Senior Counsel Fred Ngatia, Philip Murgor and Prof Patricia Mbote.
There is also Prof Otinga, Prof Moni Wekesa, Alice Jepkoech, Otondi Ontekwa and Judge Brian Matagaro.
Impeccable sources now claim Uhuru Kenyatta is supporting his former lawyer Fred Ngatia to take over the plum judiciary position. Ngatia was part of the long list of legal team in the 2017 presidential petitions. He was touted as the best brain in the team.
In 2011, Senior counsel Ngatia was named among the top legal minds in Kenya by the International legal research company, Chambers Global.
