Tuesday, August 31, 2021 -President Uhuru Kenyatta will not lead Raila Odinga into seeking votes from the Mountain. It has been established.
To spare Odinga of the ‘project tag’ that he was already being babtised with by rivals, Uhuru has reportedly decided to take back seat where he will be running the show from.
Until now, Raila remains the president’s preferred successor and will have to push his activities through Central Region MPs and strategic business persons until Odinga starts selling ‘big’ in their region.
Mt. Kenya Region is currently projected to have in excess of six million votes by next year; and Uhuru together with Odinga want to make good harvest of it even as Deputy President William Ruto continues to dig deeper into the region with an aim of running away with more than a half of the chunk.
Two things have also emerged, the former premier is reportedly cautious of taking over the Jubilee baggage which Ruto seems to be abandoning into his hands and secondly, Uhuru wants to make sure that Odinga understands how the Mt. Kenya political environment looks like.
Though most of Uhuru’s men believe in Odinga, they have been quietly questioning why he is not accompanying Raila to the area.
“This is a very sensitive matter because it talks about the President’s political plans but all I can say for now is that there is a need for Raila himself to build his personal appeal with the people first,” said a Central Kenya MP.
Therefore what this means is that Odinga will have to make a direct entry into the region, pitch his own ideas and start turning the tables on Ruto as President’s men pull strings from a distance.
Already the country has seen Odinga make frequent tours in the area and his starting point has been Murang’a County where he seems to have friends more than any other part of Central.
